What to Expect When You Visit
On behalf of the Godley church of Christ, let me say: We would love for you to visit our services any time. You are always welcome!
Not only do we want you to visit with us, we want you to be comfortable in doing so. We know it is somewhat awkward going somewhere for the first time. To combat this we want to let you know what you can expect ahead of time, believing this will help make it a better experience.
First of all, as our guest we invite you to park in the most convenient place possible. Feel free to park on the gravel along the front of the building or in the grass on the side (or anywhere else your car will fit!).
Bible classes are offered for all ages. This gives each of us an opportunity to study the Bible with our own age group. We have an adult class that meets in the auditorium and one (the “Young Adults Class”) that meets in the fellowship building. You can choose which one you go to and you won’t be questioned about your age! Only the Bible and Bible subjects will be taught in these classes.
Our worship services are in the auditorium. There are no reserved seats, so feel free to sit anywhere you choose. Some of our members will come and introduce themselves to you and welcome you to our services. You will not be embarrassed in any way!
You are welcome to participate in our services, but not obligated to do anything you are uncomfortable with. Not being a member of the Godley church of Christ, we certainly don’t expect you participate in the offering when plates are passed for members to contribute to the work of the church.
If you are comfortable with doing so, we will ask that you fill out a visitors card and place that in the collection plate when it comes around. (If you miss it, just leave your card on the pew and we will gladly take care of it.) The card simply provides us the means to send you a note thanking you for your visit with us.
In addition to the collection already mentioned, there will be singing, prayers, readings from God’s Word, a Bible lesson, and the observance of the Lord’s Supper (each Sunday morning). Sunday evening is the same with the exception of not having the Lord’s Supper.
At the close of the sermon, the preacher will "extend an invitation." This is simply an opportune time for anyone who needs to respond to the Gospel message to come down front in order to solicit baptism for the forgiveness of sins (see Acts 2:38) or to confess their sin (James 5:16).
We are a diverse group of people in background and age. We have very young children, older members, and all ages in between. Most of our members are from Godley, but some are from neighboring communities.
What you will not find if you visit with us is perfect people. We are a group of people that are trying to live righteous lives in an ungodly world, but sometimes we miss the mark. What you will find is a group of people who love each other and who will be happy to see you when you come our way.
If you have any questions about your visit or about us, please feel free to call, text, or email. We look forward to meeting you and hope that we can be a blessing to your family and you to us!!
For the Godley church of Christ,
