Lads to Leaders
In preparation for our participation in the Lads to Leaders program next year, we are doing our own to get us acquainted with the program and get the ball rolling. We will have our own Mini Convention on May 31 after our fellowship meal.
At least once a month coaches and youth participants will meet together to work together on some of the events. However, participants should also be encouraged by coaches to work on their own and with their families.
UPCOMING LADS DAYS:
DESCRIPTION OF EVENTS:
For all ages. Start with either Matthew or Genesis (Or keep up with how many chapters you read.) You may also listen to the Bible being read by a family member or electronically (but it should not be something that is merely going on in the background).
Gold: New Testament (av. almost 3 chapters per day) or 260 chapters
Silver: Matthew - 2 Timothy (or 200 chapters)
Bronze: Matthew, Mark, Luke (or 68)
Family Reading Award: Entire family reads at least 100
chapters (one chapter per day will do it).
* Note 1: To be on a good pace for the reading award at next year’s L2L Convention, you need to get a gold metal.
* Note 2: The family reading award is not something that the Lads to Leaders program does, but sure seems like a virtuous thing!
Reading must be completed and documented by May 28.
For all ages. The verses may be memorized and spoken to anyone (and any number of verses at one occasion). A list of suggested verses will be provided but participants can use any verses they choose. Please use a “standard” version of the Bible (no easy-to-read versions). Memorization should be word for word. The coach will provide log sheets for recording memorized verses (or just note the verses you memorize on the list itself.) (Coaches: See the Lads to Leaders website… click on entry forms and log sheets, or make your own.) Memory work must be completed and documented by May 28.
* Note: Verses cannot be used in consecutive years, but may be used two years later.
Gold: 25 verses (or more)
Silver: 10 (or more)

KNOW THE BOOKS
For all ages. Participants will learn the books of the Bible and can say them to their parents, coach, or anyone else. This should be accomplished and documented by May 28.
Gold: Say the Old and New Testament Books
Silver: Sing the Books of the OT and NT
Bronze: Sing or say the Books of the OT or NT
* Note: This event has been adapted for our short time period. For the convention next year in Dallas, participants are also challenged to learn
the theme of each book of the Bible. Bible school teachers will probably help some with this. Be sure to work on them at home too!
ART SAYS IT
For all ages. Create a card that can be sent to someone who is sick, shut-in, etc. Or, make a poster that advertises our Mini Convention. You may want to talk to your coach about things to put on it. Participants may do one card and one poster if they would like. Be sure to talk to the coach before doing any project.
The art work will be presented and judged at the Mini Convention. If they do more than that, they can just turn in the one they think turned out the best. 1-25 points will be given for the posters and cards in the following categories: (Ages of children will be taken into consideration.)
Theme (related to Philippians and our Convention)
* 5 extra points will be awarded for posters turned in BEFORE May 17. We will just them to advertise the event!
* Note: This event has been adapted from the L2L event. The cards and posters will probably not be able to be used at the L2L Convention next Spring.
Gold: 92 or more
Any male or female who has been baptized. Write a brief Bible article to be used in the church bulletin. Any article written by a lady will be designated as being for ladies/girls.
MINI BIBLE BOWL
For Kindergarten - Adult. This will be on the book of Philippians. Study questions will be given to help in preparation for the Bible Bowl. There will be study sessions for the young people closer to the Convention.
The Bible Bowl will consist of 50 multiple choice questions for children 12 through adult (given orally). Young children may have someone sit by them to assist if necessary and will have just 25 questions. This will be an individual event.
The Mini Bible Bowl will be at our Mini Convention on Sunday, May 31 after our fellowship meal.
ORAL BIBLE READING
K - Adult. The girls/ladies will meet separately for their event. This will be an event at our Mini Bible Bowl. Judging criterion will include: dress, neatness of appearance, poise, posture, enunciation, and sufficient volume. A Bible text of 10 to 20 verses should be chosen to be read. (K-2nd grade can do a shorter reading if necessary). * This event differs somewhat from the L2L format.
Participants will meet together a couple times to practice as the date for the Convention gets closer.
They will be judged by a panel of 3 judges who will award them a point score of 76 to 100. (Age will be taken into consideration.) Scores will be averaged and awarded according to the following scale:
AT OUR MINI CONVENTION:
SUNDAY, MAY 31 (after our fellowship meal)
MINI BIBLE BOWL
ORAL BIBLE READING: Participants will walk up to the pulpit/lectern when their name is called. They will proceed to site the passage they are going to read, and then read it and sit down.
ART SAYS IT: Cards and poster will be presented and judged (by a panel of 3 judges… the judges scores will be averaged)
AWARDS/RECOGNITION: Children will receive awards for their work.
2015 OVERALL MEDALISTS:
A gold, silver, and bronze award will be given to three of the top participants. The number of activities and the quality of their work will be taken into consideration. This will be determined by a panel of three judges.
There are only two competitive elements - The Bible Bowl and the Overall Medalists. The rest we are competing with ourselves. This is about our growth as individuals, families and as a church. Everyone who seeks God’s kingdom first is a winner and that is what we are trying to promote.
