Living the Christian Life Out of Shape
Have you ever tried to do something that you were in no shape to do? Perhaps you got yourself in the middle of an exercise regimen that you were unprepared for. Such can be frustrating and exhausting to say the least!
The Christian life can be especially difficult and discouraging when we try to live it unfit. The Christian life goes against the flow and sometimes brings opposition and even hostility. If we are spiritually unfit we are likely to be discouraged and stumble.
How do we ready ourselves to truly live the Christian life? How do we prepare to defend the Gospel of Christ? How do we guard ourselves against the wiles of the devil? We exercise ourselves unto godliness (1 Tim. 4:7).
Not long ago my son started training for cross-country. That first week of training was tuff! It is amazing, though, how different things were just a week or two later.
The same kind of progress can be made in the spiritual realm utilizing regular discipline. Prayer, Bible study, and fellowship with Christians are disciplines that lead to spiritual growth and increased stamina. Many continually struggle with living the Christian life because they don’t do their spiritual exercises. At best, they are “on a little, off a little.”
If you are struggling to live the way you know that God intends for you to live, don’t give up, get in shape. Start exercising unto godliness today!
